| This is the first year of the IHSHL All-Star Game held at North Iowa Recreational Center in Mason City. The event is held in conjunction with the United States Hockey League All-Star Game. Each coach selected his team's two best players and the remaining selections were voted on by all coaches. Players were then randomly drafted onto two teams. |
| The Sioux City hockey program returned to the Sioux City Municipal Auditorium after four seasons in South Sioux City, Nebraska. The program spent one year in the inflatable “Bubble” and three years in the Marina Inn Convention Center, which had replaced the "Bubble" after it was destroyed by a summer storm in South Sioux City, Nebraska. |

Ames Little Cyclones hosted the Varsity Year-End Tournament for the third time, February 27-March 1, at the Cyclone Area Community Center in Ames. The two previous times the event was held at Hilton Coliseum in 1977 and 1978.A kick-off breakfast was held Thursday morning with presentation of awards at the Starlite Village Conference Center. A hospitality party was hosted Friday evening in the Community Room of the Ames Parks & Recreation Building. |
